The Winged Heart or Tughra Inayati

The Tughra Inayati, or “Winged Heart,” is the universal Sufism symbol. The winged heart is an antique Sufi emblem that was chosen as the seal of the ‘Sufi Order of the West’ by Inayat Khan when it was founded in 1910. On the occasion of his 73rd birthday, Vilayat Inayat Khan received the original depiction of this winged heart calligraphy.

The tughra’s shape represents the heart’s aspiration for heaven. The crescent in the heart denotes the heart’s responsiveness and potential.
