Roses

Roses have traditionally been utilized as symbols in a variety of cultures. Roses have always been associated with love and beauty. Rose is a word that can indicate pink or red in a multitude of languages (such as Romance languages, Greek, and Polish). The rose was considered sacred by several gods, including Isis and Aphrodite, and is frequently used as a symbol of the Virgin Mary. The rose was associated with the goddesses of love, Aphrodite and Venus, by the ancient Greeks and Romans.

A wild rose was traditionally placed on the door of a room where secret or confidential issues were discussed in Rome. The five petals of the rose were associated with Christ’s five wounds by early Christians. Despite this, their authorities were wary of adopting it because of its link with Roman excesses and pagan rites. The crimson rose was later embraced as a symbol of the Christian martyrs’ blood. Roses started to be connected with the Virgin Mary later on.
