The Hopi people and many other Native American groups use this as a symbol. The Maze signifies life’s maze, or the barriers and problems that must be conquered in order to progress spiritually and become one with the divine power. It’s also known as the Mother Earth symbol, and it represents the close relationship that exists between Mother Earth and us, her offspring. The central line represents the child (a metaphor for the start of our intellectual journey), while the surrounding maze depicts the mother’s (Earth’s or Nature’s) constant support in guiding the child through life. All that is sacred in nature is identified by the Mother Earth/Maze emblem, which teaches man to revere and be thankful for it.
