Chalice or Cup

The Chalice, often known as the Cup, is a pagan ritual implement. It symbolizes the subconscious, psychic ability, intuition, emotions, and gestation, and is considered a feminine element. It is also linked to fertility and is thought to symbolise the Goddess’ womb or the feminine reproductive organs. The Chalice, as a symbol of female energy in the universe, is the polar opposite of the Athame, which represents male energy.

The Chalice has been utilized as a ceremonial item in Christianity as well, although in this case it represents the cup used by Jesus Christ at the Last Supper, and the libation it holds represents Jesus’ blood.
