The Solar Cross or Sun Cross

The Solar Cross, also known as the Sun Cross, is a cross with a circle around it; there are numerous varieties of the solar cross, including the one shown on this page. Carvings of it were discovered in 1980 on the bottoms of Bronze-age burial urns at Southworth Hall Barrow, Croft, Cheshire, England, and the urns date back to around 1440 BC. This emblem has been utilized by various religions, groups, and families throughout history (as a Japanese samurai family crest), and it eventually made its way into Christian imagery.
