Rabbit

The Chinese Year of the Rabbit is actually the Chinese Year of the Hare, because China has seven natural species of hares and no native species of rabbits, making this the Chinese Year of the Hare. In China, the first rabbits brought back from Europe were given the Chinese name for hare, and the word has since been incorrectly back-translated into English as “rabbit” as a result. The hare is the fourth animal in the Chinese zodiac’s 12-year cycle, and it represents the beginning of spring. The earthy branch emblem is related with the Year of the Hare, which falls in the month of March. The cat takes the place of the hare in the Vietnamese Zodiac, which is similar to this one.
