War Resisters’ International (WRI) and its affiliates utilize the broken rifle sign, which dates back to before WRI was founded in 1921. The sign initially appeared in the masthead of De Wapens Neder (Down With Weapons), the monthly publication of the International Antimilitarist Union in the Netherlands, in January 1909.
